Social Media Monitoring During the 2020-2021 Elections in Georgia
Project Objectives:
The overall goal of the project is to safeguard the information integrity around the 2020 Parliamentary and 2021 Municipal elections in Georgia from disinformation, discrediting campaigns and other hostile information operations on social media. Specific objectives are:
MediaWise
The mission of MediaWise is to empower people of all ages to be more critical consumers of content online. They teach people key digital literacy skills to spot misinformation and disinformation so they can make decisions based on facts, not fiction. They have three programs: MediaWise for GenZ, MediaWise for First Time Voters, and MediaWise for Seniors.
Code of Conduct: Measures to Address Disinformation Intended to Cause Harm During the Election Period (South Africa)
South Africa’s “Code of Conduct: Measures to Address Disinformation Intended to Cause Harm During the Election Period” (in draft form as of July 2020) is aimed at “every registered party and every candidate” with additional obligations under the code for how those parties and candidates must take appropriate recourse against any member, representative or supporter of that party or candidate who behaves in violation of the code. The code is drawn narrowly to limit its application to the electoral period and ground it firmly in the broader legal and regulatory framework in South Africa.
Voluntary Code of Ethics - India 2019 Election
Prior to 2019 elections, the Election Commission of India was able to convene representatives from top social media companies for a two-day brainstorming session on approaches to problematic social media content in elections. Technology and social media companies then signed on to a voluntary Code of Ethics that outlined the nature of collaboration between the EMB and the companies.
Data Analytics for Social Media Monitoring
This new guide is designed to help democracy practitioners better understand social media trends, content, data, and networks. By sharing lessons learned and best practices from across our global network, we hope to empower our partners to make democracy work online by helping them:
• Collaborate with local, national, or international partners;
• Understand different methods of data collection;
• Make the best use of mapping and data visualization;
• Analyze the online ecosystem;
• Detect malicious or manipulated content and its source;
Countering Misinformation about Armenia
Monitoring of the selected talk shows, newspapers, electronic periodicals of both Russian and Armenian mass media to examine the media coverage, the possible labelling and targeted information conveyed to wide audiences in the result of the activity of Russian and Armenian news and information periodicals, TV talk shows and websites. The monitoring has also sought to detect the possible impact of Russian mass media on the Armenian press.

Violence Against Women in Elections Online: A Social Media Analysis Tool
This tool offers an adaptable method to measure the gendered aspects and understand the drivers of this violence. It can be used by actors from across a range of professions who are concerned by hateful and violent speech online and are motivated to end it.
