Tactical Tech’s Gendersec Training Curricula on “Hacking Hate Speech”
A training workshop curriculum on how to set up an online support network, create textual and visual counterspeech content, and deploy a counterspeech campaign. The “Hacking Hate Speech” session focuses on countering online hate speech, including learning how to conduct simple threat modelling, identify attackers, and develop strategies to mitigate hate speech.
Linterna Verde
Linterna Verde do Research on the online public debate based on areas of interest. They seek to make our work accessible, useful and actionable for civil society, the media and government.
They work with civil society organizations to help them address issues related to their online interactions. They help them interpret information, focus campaigns and face risks unique to the internet and social media. They do not develop or recommend actions aimed at misinforming the public or attacking third parties.
MOE Election Observation
The Election Observation Mission (La Misión de Observación Electoral, MOE) is an election observer group based in Colombia. In the 2019 Colombia elections and in others, including the 2016 peace referendum, they have formed partnerships with Facebook and Twitter both for creating awareness of voting processes and other democratic issues throughout hashtags and online campaigns, and also set up systems for reporting harmful content on those platforms. MOE also worked with a network of universities for online and media monitoring of content during the 2019 elections cycle.

Pledge signed by political parties and technology/social network companies committing to avoiding fake news and mechanisms of disinformation that may affect upcoming elections.

Bots, short for robots, are computer programs designed to perform specific tasks. The first robots did not have malicious intentions, and even today there are good bots, whose purpose is to demand accountability from politicians, viralize causes for gender equality or help organize the (many) daily tasks of their users. News On Wiki NOW helps Internet users gain insight into the media they encounter, by adding information to the websites they already visit. We recruit people to put accurate information about established publications onto Wikipedia and search engines. Our focus for this phase: Washington State, Black-owned, and Caribbean newspapers.

Nao Vale Tudo is an open letter to Brazilian society urging that all political parties, candidates, citizens, etc. take a strong stand against information disorder. It is a code of ethics for politicians, civic groups and parties to follow developed during 2018 Brazilian election cycle, these focused on principles around the non-use of computational propaganda techniques such as bot or troll networks, non-promotion of false claims, transparency around campaign use of private user data and non abuse and the promotion of a free and open information space.

Faced with the “infodemic”, the spread of rumors and false content, Latin American checkers join forces to share the information we produce and, by joining forces, provide better information to our communities. The disinformation that circulates in many cases is the same in different countries and being able to count on the work of others helps to disprove falsehoods more quickly and prevent their spread.

El Poder de Elegir is a project to monitor and fact-check the political information that circulates through WhatsApp during the campaign period of the presidential elections of 2018. It is proposed to monitor and verify in real time the information that circulates through this messaging service and that is related to candidates and elections, in order to be leaders in the debate on voter manipulation strategies, involving civil society.
