Building Civil Society Capacity to Mitigate and Counter Disinformation

‘VISHVAS’ believes in following a logical flow in building its content. All our stories follow the same pattern. The idea is conceived with planning followed by development of the idea, then publishing and distribution, and finally quality check on the basis of facts, language, ethics and conduct. During the whole process, it is ensured that journalistic ethics are not compromised at any stage.

Verify-Sy platform is a media platform specialized in examining news and images and verifying information, and Verify-Sy platform seeks to achieve two noble goals: ensuring the citizen's right to obtain accurate and correct information, and contributing as much as possible to improving the performance of the Syrian media and upgrading it by displaying the imbalances that affect it.

Since December 2018, a group of media, journalists, social organizations and universities inspired by international experiences in the fight against disinformation decided that it was a good idea to get together to project a similar initiative to accompany the electoral campaign beyond what is usually done from the media.

We focus on two types of content:
- Rumors spread on social networks.
- Contents of public discourse (statements by politicians, candidates for government positions and leaders).

VERA Files is a nonstock, nonprofit independent media organization. Founded in March 2008, it is published by veteran Filipino journalists taking a deeper look into current Philippine issues. Vera is Latin for “true.”

The organization’s chief purposes, as embodied in its articles of incorporation, are to:
(1) Engage in the research, writing, production and distribution of news and other media products and related services in multiple formats, including but not limited to print broadcast and online, to advance excellence in journalism; and

Mission:
Determine the veracity of the political statements that refer to specific data based on their contrast with reliable sources. The site selects assertions of the most outstanding speeches on key topics and, based on a specific methodology, classifies them into categories.

Ushahidi, which translates to “testimony” in Swahili, was developed to map reports of violence in Kenya after the post-election violence in 2008. Since then, thousands have used our crowdsourcing tools to raise their voice. We’re a technology leader in Africa, headquartered in Nairobi, with a global team. We are a social enterprise that provides software and services to numerous sectors and civil society to help improve the bottom up flow of information.

Faced with the choice between privacy and safety on the Internet, between freely expressing themselves and the ethical use of information, the media and technology – women, men and young boys and girls need new types of competencies. Media and information literacy (MIL) offers these competencies. Education for all must therefore include media and information literacy for all.

This group is a product of Wellesley College and a grant from the National Science Foundation. It tasks itself with investigating rumors and other claims on Twitter for validity, measuring both the spread of the claim (how many people have read it) and its validity. The site also offers blogs for meta-analysis of the misinformation on Twitter it investigates.

TrustServista uses advanced Artificial Intelligence algorithms in order to provide media professionals, analysts and content distributors with in-depth content analytics and verification capabilities.

Trustworthiness Algorithm
TrustServista determines the trustworthiness of news articles using Artificial Intelligence. The trustworthiness algorithm combines deep content analysis, the publisher's profile, the sources it mentions or directly links to, and the different viewpoints of the same story, from other publishers.

TrolleyBust is a service for tracking and blocking Internet trolls and other sources of anti-Ukrainian propaganda.

The goal is to open access to tools and unite the efforts of volunteers to clean up propaganda directed against Ukraine and Ukrainians.

They operate in several areas:
- Blocking propagandists and "experts"
- Bots, fake accounts
- Other users questioning the territorial integrity of Ukraine
