Credible Information for Democratic Governance

Domestic and foreign disinformation narratives are deepening public disillusion over Serbia’s complex democratic transition process and its prospects for European integration. In this vein, the National Democratic Institute’s (NDI) public opinion research in Serbia in 2018 highlighted the importance of “microenvironments”—local communities—as consequential to how citizens process information on public affairs, including disinformation narratives, which are primarily received through mainstream broadcast media.

This new guide is designed to help democracy practitioners better understand social media trends, content, data, and networks. By sharing lessons learned and best practices from across our global network, we hope to empower our partners to make democracy work online by helping them:

• Make the best use of mapping and data visualization;

• Analyze the online ecosystem; 

• Detect malicious or manipulated content and its source;

An initiative designed to help political parties become more inclusive and representative through an assessment that gauges men and women's perceptions of women in leadership, the types of social norms held by members of parties, and the individual, institutional and socio-cultural barriers to gender equality.

Fake Watch Africa

Fact checking on Facebook, Twitter and Medium during the Malawi 2019 election and afterwards, including some video anti-disinfo content. The FakeWatch team monitors instances of possible fake news in the 2019 Malawi tripartite election campaign. A project by Institute for War & Peace Reporting.
